Monterosso al Mare is the largest and most western of the five villages of Cinque Terre, set along the rugged Ligurian coast of northern Italy. Unlike the other villages, Monterosso is known for its relatively broad sandy and pebble beaches, making it a popular destination for swimming and relaxing by the Mediterranean Sea. The village is divided between the modern Fegina area and the historic old town, connected by a short tunnel and coastal paths. Steep green hills, dramatic rocky cliffs, colourful Ligurian houses, and the deep blue sea create a spectacular coastal landscape. Monterosso also provides access to the famous Cinque Terre hiking trails, offering panoramic views over the coastline and neighbouring villages.
